In this report we propose using gold as an effective way to gauge and combat the ravages of inflation on a portfolio; explain why using the CPI to formulate a sound strategy for protecting investments against inflation is bound to fail; and calculate how much gold to include in a portfolio of Treasury bonds to immunize it from capital loss due to inflation.
